Merry Christmas

Santa made a surprise house call this afternoon. Gabriella was so excited to see him. She walked right out the front door and said "Hi Santa."

Beau's friend Choppy has been dressing up as Santa for the past 30 years. He stopped by, on his way home, so that we could get a few pictures.

Here are just a few photos of Gabriella by our tree.

A Little Accident

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Today we experienced our first major childhood accident. I left a piping hot mug of TheraFlu on the dining table while I stepped into the bathroom. All of a sudden I heard the most awful scream coming from Gabriella. She had grabbed the mug and spilled the contents on her left hand and forearm.

I immediately took off all her clothes and put her arm under the cold faucet. She stopped crying almost immediately. After calling the doctor's office, they said to keep the arm under cool water until we had to leave for our appointment. That proved to be difficult.

First, we filled a bowl of water and she lay on my lap with her arm submerged. She was pretty still for about 15 minutes. Then the fussing started up again. Beau took her and put her in a pretty cool bath (did I mention that it was 55 degrees today and she has a cold). That seemed to do the trick.

The burn was pretty bad. After we got her out of the water it had already blistered and popped. I have to say that she was really brave once we got to the doctor's office. The nurse put burn ointment and gauze on the burn and then wrapped it up. The rest of the day has been OK. She doesn't seem to mind her arm being wrapped up.

Just before leaving for the doctor's office

Winter Days

Just a few shots of one of our treks to the park. It has been soooo cold here that we have to really bundle up to go outside.

Butterfly Museum

Friday, November 26, 2010

The day after Thanksgiving we took Gabriella to the Florida Museum of Natural History, on the UF campus, to check out the Butterfly Exhibit. It was amazing. They have a "rainforest" set up that you can walk through and see all the different kinds of butterflies that they are breeding. The butterflies are flying all around you while you walk through. It was really awesome.

Gabriella loved pulling out the drawers and checking out some of the dried specimens

checking out the butterfly cocoons

Blowing at the butterfly to try and get it to move

Check out the giant moth behind Gabriella

Later that day we took everyone to the UF bat house. At about dusk thousands of bats fly out to eat all night.
