Today we experienced our first major childhood accident. I left a piping hot mug of TheraFlu on the dining table while I stepped into the bathroom. All of a sudden I heard the most awful scream coming from Gabriella. She had grabbed the mug and spilled the contents on her left hand and forearm.
I immediately took off all her clothes and put her arm under the cold faucet. She stopped crying almost immediately. After calling the doctor's office, they said to keep the arm under cool water until we had to leave for our appointment. That proved to be difficult.
First, we filled a bowl of water and she lay on my lap with her arm submerged. She was pretty still for about 15 minutes. Then the fussing started up again. Beau took her and put her in a pretty cool bath (did I mention that it was 55 degrees today and she has a cold). That seemed to do the trick.
The burn was pretty bad. After we got her out of the water it had already blistered and popped. I have to say that she was really brave once we got to the doctor's office. The nurse put burn ointment and gauze on the burn and then wrapped it up. The rest of the day has been OK. She doesn't seem to mind her arm being wrapped up.
